A working Victorian beam engine sits in its original Grade II listed engine house inside Markfield Park, on the banks of the River Lee. The engine was built to pump sewage, and the surrounding park still holds the remains of the old Victorian sewage works, which volunteers explain on guided tours. Families come to watch the engine run on steaming days, pick up free activity sheets, and try hands-on engineering activities in the family area beside the engine. The park itself has a playground, a rose garden and plenty of grass for children to run around on, and a café sits in the park. The museum is run by volunteers and is free to enter, though donations are welcome. Because it opens only on certain days, it suits a planned outing rather than a spontaneous visit.

Open days are on a published calendar rather than a weekly pattern; check before travelling, especially over the festive period.
