What’s there

  • Café on site
  • Limited parking
  • Picnic area

Small car park at the adjacent Epping Forest Visitor Centre with two disabled bays and three standard bays; four larger car parks nearby (Barn Hoppitt, Warren Pond, Chingford Plain, Connaught Water). Car park fees are on the City of London car parking page, not checked here.

Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.

A preserved Tudor hunting grandstand set in its own grassed area at the edge of Epping Forest. Families can explore a Tudor kitchen, try on period dressing-up clothes, look for the carpenters' marks left in the timber frame, and climb to an upper floor with a wide view over the forest. Entry to the lodge is free, and it sits beside the Epping Forest visitor centre, which has interactive displays on the forest's history and changing exhibitions. Refreshments are available in the adjoining Butler's Retreat, and there is space outside for a picnic before or after a walk on the forest paths. It suits families who enjoy history, woodland walks and an easy outing close to London's north-eastern edge.
