Dunster Castle sits on a wooded hill above the village of Dunster, with views over the Bristol Channel and Exmoor. Families can explore the castle's medieval gatehouse and its Victorian rooms, then wander the terraced garden with its Mediterranean and subtropical planting. The grounds include open parkland with a river, a natural play area built around a giant redwood, and a Victorian reservoir to find. A restored 18th-century working watermill sits in the same grounds and shows traditional milling machinery on several floors. The site runs seasonal events, including family activities in autumn and Christmas programmes, and has a tearoom and a shop in the old stables. Parts of the castle involve steep routes and steps, so younger children and buggies may need planning ahead.
Opening pattern changes through the year; see hoursNote. Autumn family activities and a Christmas programme are run each year.
