Conisbrough Castle is an English Heritage keep on a hill above the village of Conisbrough in South Yorkshire. Its cylindrical keep is unusual, and families can climb to the top for wide views over the surrounding countryside. Inside, three large chambers and a small chapel are brought to life with wall-projected figures, and graphic novel-style interpretation follows builders, servants and squires through the fortress. An introductory exhibition explains the site's history and its link to Walter Scott's novel Ivanhoe, and a cutaway model gives a virtual tour of the keep for anyone who would rather not climb the stairs. The castle suits children who enjoy castles, stories and history, and it pairs well with other historic sites in the area for a relaxed day out.
