Bishops' House is a small historic museum in a half-timbered house built around 1500, set at the top of Meersbrook Park on the south side of Sheffield. Rooms are furnished in Jacobean style and others hold cabinets of artefacts and information boards, so children can look at old furniture, everyday objects and the building itself. Young families often combine a visit with time in the park's playground afterwards, and the hilltop position gives wide views over the city. The house is run by a volunteer group, so staff are usually happy to chat about the history. It also hosts school visits, events and music, and is worth a short stop rather than a full day. Opening is limited to weekends, so check before travelling.
