Wentworth Castle Gardens is a Grade I registered landscape of formal gardens, woodland and open parkland on the edge of Barnsley. Families can wander the terraces and the Victorian conservatory, follow the walks through the trees and climb up towards Stainborough Castle, a gothic mock castle that gives the estate its nickname. The adventure play area sits a short walk from the car park and has a large play fort, swings, a zip wire and an accessible seesaw. A café in the Long Barn serves hot drinks and snacks, and there is a designated picnic area near the playground. Dogs on leads are welcome outdoors. The paths are often steep, grassy or sloped, so buggies and wheelchairs will find some areas harder going than others. The house itself is occupied by Northern College and is not open to visitors.
Hours change between summer and winter; the play area kiosk operates on busy days only.
