Lightroom is a purpose-built immersive venue sunk beneath Lewis Cubitt Square near King's Cross. Instead of a gallery of hanging pictures, visitors sit or wander through a large dark chamber where projections cover the walls, ceiling and floor, set to music and narration. Each show runs for roughly fifty minutes. The current programme includes an Aardman show built around Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and their friends, which suits younger children who know the characters, as well as artist-led shows for older visitors. Families can enjoy a cafe and bar before a showing, and there is a calm space for children who need a quieter moment. Ear defenders for babies, children and adults are available on request. The venue also runs school group visits and a family discount on selected dates, so it works as a rainy-day outing for a mixed-age group.
