The London Sewing Machine Museum is a small private collection of historic sewing machines, gathered over several decades by the Rushton family and displayed on the upper floor of a working sewing machine shop. Visitors can see machines from the mid-nineteenth century onwards, including early domestic models and heavier industrial machines, along with a replica of an old shop front and a number of vintage cabinets. Many of the machines are still in working order. The museum is a niche attraction, so it suits older children and adults with an interest in craft, textiles or industrial history more than very young children. It is open only on certain afternoons each month and entry is free, with a donation invited. Because it is a short visit, it works well as a stop alongside other activities in the area.
