The Royal College of Physicians Museum tells the story of England's oldest medical college, founded by royal charter in 1518, through portraits, historic medical objects, books and a changing temporary exhibition. The museum sits inside Sir Denys Lasdun's Grade I listed modernist headquarters, and the central Lasdun Hall with its floating staircase is worth a look in its own right. Visitors can also see the Medicinal Garden when it is open. Admission is free for self-guided visits during weekday opening hours, and the museum runs free monthly taster tours and evening lates that suit curious older children and teenagers. Families with a school group can book school visits, and the museum runs hands-on children's workshops during the year. Some rooms are used for private events on certain days, so it is worth checking the closure dates before travelling.
