East Surrey Museum sits in the middle of Caterham and is dedicated to the social history, archaeology and geology of the East Surrey area. Its displays are arranged over a few rooms, so a visit is short and easy with younger children. One room is set aside for children, and the museum runs museum trails and hands-on exhibits aimed at visitors of all ages, with craft activities during school holidays. Local pubs and brewing feature in a recent display, and temporary exhibitions change through the year. The building is a Victorian flint and tiled house, and the museum is staffed largely by volunteers who are happy to show families around. It also takes school and club groups by arrangement, which makes it a useful stop for a local history outing close to Caterham station.
