Hackney Museum is the community history museum for the London Borough of Hackney, on the ground floor of the Technology and Learning Centre beside Hackney Town Hall square. Its displays trace the borough's story from Anglo-Saxon settlers through Victorian houses to recent refugees, using objects, images and recorded personal memories. The museum describes itself as offering family activities, and a children's wooden red bus is among the things to see, so younger visitors can take part as well as look. Entry is free at all times, and only special events need booking. The building is step-free on one level with a baby changing room. Because the museum delivers school workshops on weekdays, weekends and late weekday afternoons are usually quieter. It is currently closed for refurbishment, so check the museum's site for the reopening date before going.
