A compact museum set in the entrance area of Sledmere House, a Georgian country house with gardens and parkland on the Yorkshire Wolds. It tells the story of the Wagoners' Special Reserve, a unit of local farm workers who drove horse-drawn supply wagons in the First World War. Displays draw on photographs, papers, memorabilia, uniforms and a medal collection. The museum also looks after a Wolds wagon from 1861, which can be seen in the Carriage House and is sometimes driven by the estate's shire horses. Because the museum is small, a visit takes little time, so it works well as a short stop alongside a wider day at the house and grounds. Older children with an interest in history, transport or the First World War will get the most from it, and schools can request information about visits.
