Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum sits close to the centre of the market town of Pocklington, on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. Two lakes hold a National Collection of hardy water lilies, and the nine acres around them include a rock garden, a walled garden, a stumpery, a secret garden and woodland walks. Visitors can hand-feed the carp and roach in the lakes, and the grounds suit an unhurried walk with younger children. The Stewart Museum is set within the gardens and tells the story of Major Percy Stewart and his wife Katharine, whose eight world tours between 1906 and 1926 brought back a wide range of cultural and religious objects. Some displays have interactive stations, which can hold a child's attention. A cafe, gift shop and playground are on site, and seasonal events and trails run through the year. It works well as a relaxed family day out rather than a fast-paced attraction.

Water lily collection in bloom June to August; seasonal events and trails through the year.
