Waveney and Oulton Broad Yacht Club (W&OBYC) is a family-friendly sailing club based at the Clubhouse in Nicholas Everitt Park, right on the water at Oulton Broad. The club traces its history back to the Waveney Sailing Club, founded in 1885, and today offers one of the friendliest junior sailing programmes on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Juniors can learn to sail with qualified RYA instructors on Stage 1, 2 and 3 courses during the Whitsun training week, join informal Saturday-morning training sessions from April, or race in classes like the Optimist designed for young sailors. Parents of under-18s are welcome to support from the shore or get involved as volunteers. The summer racing season runs April to October with racing on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings, and the clubhouse overlooks the Broad, making it a pleasant spot for families to watch the action. Membership-based: Junior membership is GBP35 a year and Family membership (two adults plus children under 26 in full-time education) is GBP175, so it is an affordable way for local families to sail together regularly.
