Historic 14-acre botanic garden in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, created in 1831 and set within the ruins of the 11th-century Abbey of St Edmund. Free to enter and a Green Flag Award winner, the gardens feature a well-equipped children's play area with a treehouse nestled in a willow maze, plus a sand and water play area, formal island flower beds, the Appleby Rose Garden, a sensory garden, herb garden, aviary and wildlife feeding area. Grounds Cafe serves homemade cakes and light lunches at picnic tables, and there are two LTA-standard tennis courts. Dogs welcome on leads.
Summer 1 Apr-31 Aug; Late Summer Sep; Mid-season Oct & Mar; Winter 1 Nov-end Feb. Grounds Cafe kiosk hours vary by season (Oct-Jan 10am-4pm daily) and may change with weather.
