Peterhead Prison Museum occupies the buildings of HM Prison Peterhead, Scotland's former maximum-security prison which operated from 1888 to 2013 and reopened as a heritage visitor attraction in June 2016. Visitors can explore the historic halls and original cells at their own pace with Prison Entry, or join a guided tour led by former prison staff sharing stories of life behind bars. The site also features two escape rooms (ages 8+), the Lifeboat Museum, a gift shop and the Refuge Cafe, with free on-site parking. The prison reopened on a phased basis in May 2026 after reconfiguration works, with summer 2026 offers including children going free with paying adults. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on leads with Prison Entry. The site is cashless.
