Aberdeen Maritime Museum sits on the historic Shiprow near the harbour and tells the story of the city's long relationship with the sea. Spread over four floors of a 16th-century house and linked modern building, the displays include beautifully detailed ship models from 1689 onwards — including the Aberdeen-built tea clipper Thermopylae, rival of the Cutty Sark — a complete lighthouse lens assembly, figureheads, and the propeller from the steam yacht Fox. A centrepiece is the astonishingly detailed 9-metre-high scale model of the Murchison oil platform. The museum covers shipping (around 3,000 ships were built in Aberdeen between 1790 and 1989), fishing, offshore energy, and the harbour's nearly 900-year history. From the top floor, there are views over the bustling Aberdeen Harbour.
