Perched atop a 160-foot rock and surrounded on three sides by the North Sea, Dunnottar Castle is one of Scotland's most dramatically situated historic sites. These evocative cliff-top ruins were once an impregnable fortress of the Earls Marischal, one of the most powerful families in Scotland. The castle grounds offer stunning coastal walks along the Aberdeenshire Coastal Trail, rich history spanning over 1000 years including William Wallace and Mary Queen of Scots, and breathtaking views across the North Sea. Open all year with seasonal hours. Onsite parking available for cars, motorhomes, and coaches. Refreshments available from the on-site catering van with scenic picnic seating. Family tickets and annual passes available. Located 1.6 miles south of Stonehaven along the Aberdeenshire Coastal Trail, only 20 miles from Aberdeen.

Open all year with seasonal hours. Last entry one hour before closing. May close at short notice in bad weather (high winds, snow/ice). Summer (Apr-Sep): 09:00-18:00. Autumn (Oct): 10:00-17:00. Late Autumn (Oct-Jan): 10:00-15:00. Winter (Feb): 10:00-16:00. Spring (Mar): 10:00-17:00.
