Shrewsbury Castle is a 1000-year-old historic castle in the heart of Shrewsbury town centre, home to the Shropshire Regimental Museum. Step back in time as you explore the castle's rich history and discover the county's regimental past, from the King's Shropshire Light Infantry to the formation of the 53rd (Shropshire) Regiment in 1755 and the 85th Light Infantry in 1759.

The castle grounds are FREE to visit and offer stunning panoramic views over Shrewsbury, with beautiful, picnic-perfect lawns. During school holidays families can follow the Castle Trail for children around the grounds, hunting for seasonally themed items as they go.

The castle opens Tuesday to Saturday, 10:30am-4:00pm, seasonally from mid-February to mid-December (closed over the winter season). Day tickets: Adult (18+) GBP 8, Concession GBP 6, Child GBP 4, Family ticket (2 adults + up to 3 children) GBP 20; under 5s and former members of the Shropshire Regiments go free. Accessible toilets, baby changing, a shop and a wheelchair-accessible path around the grounds make it easy to visit with little ones. Managed by Shropshire Museums (Shropshire Council).

Open Sat 14 Feb - Sat 12 Dec 2026; closed over the winter season. Free entry on selected Heritage Open Days.
