Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre sits on the edge of Craven Arms as the visitor gateway to the Shropshire Hills AONB, run by the charity Grow Cook Learn. Inside, the exhibition is home to the famous life-size Condover Mammoth, with interactive displays, games and a panoramic drone film in the refurbished rotunda. Kids can explore an Iron Age hut, discover a mammoth's diet and see how this landscape was shaped from the Silurian era and the Ice Age to the present day.
Entry to the Centre and its 30-acre Onny Meadows is free. The meadows offer surfaced, pushchair-friendly paths, a wild play trail with play equipment, ponds, woodland and riverside walks beside the River Onny, plus a picnic spot at Kingfisher Corner. The cafe serves frothy coffees and Shropshire cream teas, and there is a gift shop.
The exhibition is charged separately (adult GBP 5, child GBP 3.50, family GBP 13.50, under-5s free) and day parking costs GBP 2.50. With level access throughout the building, a Changing Places facility and a free powered mobility scooter, it is an easy day out for families of all ages.
