Woburn Abbey has been the home of the Russell family since 1547. The house combines rooms from different periods: the 4th Earl's Grotto Apartment from the 1620s, Henry Flitcroft's Palladian State Rooms, and Henry Holland's Canaletto Room and Regency libraries. The collections include the Mortlake Tapestries, purchased in 1664 for the Grotto Chamber. Beyond the Abbey, the grounds include Humphry Repton's designed gardens and a Deer Park home to nine species of deer. The Abbey has undergone major restoration since 2019, including work on the roof, stonework, screen walls, and the conservation of important artworks.
Abbey closed for restoration; work continues in the gardens (fifth five-year plan, Humphry Repton grounds reinterpretation). The official site says the Abbey will reopen 'in due course'.
