Yarmouth Castle is a 16th-century square blockhouse built to defend Yarmouth harbour and the western Solent. It was Henry VIII's last and most advanced coastal fort, featuring the first 'arrowhead' bastion ever built in England. Inside, atmospheric recreations show how rooms were used in the 16th century, and an exhibition covers the many wrecks in the treacherous stretch of sea called Yarmouth Roads that the castle overlooks. The castle remained garrisoned until 1885. It is also a picnic spot with views over the Solent, and there is a World Builder trail to explore.
