Great Orme Mines

A self-guided tour of Bronze Age copper mines dating back 4,000 years, discovered in 1987 and now thought to be the largest prehistoric mine so far discovered in the world. The 200-metre underground route takes you down two levels via slopes and staircases (35 steps down and back up), with dim lighting and low ceilings in places where you may need to duck. It's cold underground — between 5°C and 8°C — and the floor is uneven and wet in places, so bring warm clothes and sensible footwear. You'll wear a hard hat, watch a 5-minute introductory film, and explore tunnels mined over 3,500 years ago. The tour also includes a surface walk around the smelting shelter and opencast mine, and takes about 45 minutes. There's a visitor centre and gift shop.
