Wheal Martyn is the UK's only china clay mining museum, set within two Victorian clay works that are now a Scheduled Ancient Monument. China clay has shaped mid-Cornwall's landscape and economy for over 250 years, and the museum tells the story of this industry and the people who worked in the shadows of the region's iconic 'white pyramids'. The clay itself hides in everyday products: toothpaste, paper, car tyres and cosmetics. Visitors can explore hands-on craft activities (Monday to Friday during school holidays), play traditional lawn games around the grounds, and see rotating exhibitions and performances. The museum is fully accredited.
