A heritage railway running steam and diesel trains through the Scottish Highlands between Aviemore, Boat of Garten and Broomhill. Standard services include observation carriages with panoramic views, restored brake van rides from a guard's vantage point, and an accessible carriage adapted for wheelchair users. Dining options range from afternoon tea services to first-class private compartments. The railway operates shed tours during its Summer Steam and Diesel Gala, where visitors can see locomotives in restoration inside Aviemore Locomotive Shed, originally opened in 1898. A seasonal Santa's Elf Express runs from late November to December, with children aged 10 months and over receiving gifts from Santa. The journey takes approximately 1 hour 40 minutes on standard services.
Standard Operating Season is March-November 2026. Santa's Elf Express runs selected dates from 28th November to 24th December.
