Fort George is the mightiest artillery fortification in Britain, built between 1748 and 1769 after the Battle of Culloden. This immense 18th-century fortress stretches nearly a mile along the Moray Firth coastline and has barely changed in over 250 years of active service. Step inside and discover life as a Redcoat in a garrison fortress — explore the ramparts, barracks, magazine, and dungeons. See cannon firings, costume displays, and the Highlanders Museum housed within the fortress. Family-friendly with guided tours, interactive exhibits, and stunning views across the Moray Firth. There is a café, gift shop, and picnic areas on site. Booking in advance is recommended.
1 Apr-30 Sep: daily 09:30-17:30. 1 Oct-31 Mar: daily 10:00-16:00. 24 Dec: 10:00-14:00.
