John Muir Country Park is a 713-hectare (1,763-acre) coastal park on the East Lothian coast between Dunbar and West Barns, designated in 1976 in memory of the conservationist John Muir, who was born in Dunbar. It stretches 13 km along the shore from Peffer Sands to Dunbar Castle, taking in Belhaven Bay, the River Tyne estuary, sandy beaches, dunes, saltmarsh, grassland and woodland, and is part of the Firth of Forth Ramsar Site (SSSI/SPA). There is a large outdoor play area, picnic tables and BBQs to rent, public toilets and a seasonal food outlet, with the main car park at Linkfield. The John Muir Way long-distance path runs through the park, and families can spot seabirds, waders and butterflies or stroll through the Scots pine plantation near West Barns. East Links Family Park is right next door, and Dunbar's beach, harbour and play parks are within easy reach. Dogs welcome on leads.
