Cramond Beach is a sandy, family-friendly beach on the Firth of Forth at Cramond, a historic fishing village on the edge of Edinburgh. At low tide a paved causeway crosses the Drum Sands to Cramond Island, a tidal island about a mile offshore - check the safe crossing times before heading over, as the incoming tide can cover the causeway within two hours of low water. A striking row of concrete pylons, the remains of a Second World War anti-boat boom, lines the causeway. The beach is backed by the village harbour, cafés, shops and seaside walks, with public toilets and parking on Cramond Glebe Road, and the shoreline walk offers views across the Forth to Fife. Wildlife and bird watching are popular, and Cramond Island is dotted with wartime fortifications and a ruined farmstead to explore.
At high tide the causeway is covered by several feet of seawater and Cramond Island is cut off from the mainland until the next low tide.
