Yellowcraig is a beautiful stretch of golden sandy beach near Dirleton, backed by dunes, woodland and grassland, with superb views across the Firth of Forth to Fidra Island and its 1885 lighthouse. It sits on the John Muir Way and lies partly within the Firth of Forth SSSI. Families can enjoy a large children's play area just off the path to the beach, three picnic benches by the information area, and toilets and showers at the car park. A wheelchair-accessible path and ramp offers coastal views. Fidra, just offshore, is an RSPB nature reserve and the reputed inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. The site is managed by East Lothian Council's Countryside Ranger Service; pay-and-display parking applies at the car park.
Woodland and dune grassland provide seasonal interest, from orchids in summer to colourful fungi and autumn foliage later in the year.
