Holyrood Park (also known as Queen's Park or King's Park) is a 650-acre royal park surrounding Arthur's Seat, the 251m ancient volcano at the heart of Edinburgh. Managed by Historic Environment Scotland, the park offers dramatic landscapes including Arthur's Seat summit (the best viewpoint in the city), the steep Salisbury Crags cliffs, Duddingston Loch (a wildlife-rich freshwater loch), St Margaret's Loch, and extensive networks of walking and hiking trails. The park is steeped in history — from Iron Age hillforts to Hutton's famous geological discoveries at Salisbury Crags. It is free and open to the public 24 hours a day, making it a favourite destination for families, hikers, runners, and nature lovers of all ages.
