Cowbar Cliffs form the coastal area on the Redcar and Cleveland side of Staithes, within the North York Moors National Park. This dramatic stretch of Jurassic coastline offers spectacular views along the Cleveland Way National Trail.
**Fossil Hunting:** The cliffs expose Jurassic (Lias) strata, making this one of the best fossil hunting locations on the North Yorkshire coast. Ammonites and other fossils can be found, and a rare seagoing dinosaur fossil was discovered nearby at Port Mulgrave.
**Walking:** The Cleveland Way runs along the cliff tops between Staithes and Saltburn-by-the-Sea, offering breathtaking coastal scenery. The area is also part of the wider network of public footpaths and bridleways.
**Activities:** Fossil hunting, coastal walking, birdwatching, photography, and enjoying the dramatic sea views. The nearby village of Staithes offers art galleries, cafes, pubs, and a small sandy beach.
