Runswick Bay is a picturesque bay within the North York Moors National Park, 5 miles north of Whitby. The bay features Runswick Sands, a white sand beach with rock pools, caves and excellent fossil hunting opportunities along the Cleveland Way national trail. Named Sunday Times Beach of the Year 2020, it offers stunning coastal walks, a cliffside village with holiday cottages, a pub (The Royal), beachside cafe, public toilets, sailing club and car park. Popular activities include swimming, rock pooling, fossil hunting, coastal walking and dog walking.
Best visited in good weather. The Royal pub and beachside cafe have seasonal hours - check ahead in winter.
