Symonds Yat Rock sits on a cliff top overlooking the River Wye, with sweeping views across the valley. It's an Iron Age hill fort, now a scheduled ancient monument built 2,500 years ago. The site draws birdwatchers — it's one of the UK's best spots for peregrine falcons, with chances to see goshawks, sparrowhawks, buzzards, ospreys, owls, ravens and kestrels. Waymarked walking trails lead down to the river and across Biblins Bridge, while shaded woodland paths offer cooler routes. Children can take part in a Gruffalo orienteering challenge, hunting for hidden panels in the woods. A cycling trail links the site to Forest Holidays and Bracelands Campsite. There's a log cabin café serving light meals, homemade cakes and drinks.
Symonds Yat Rock is often quieter on weekdays (outside of school holidays), earlier in the morning, and later in the afternoon. The log cabin cafe is open all year round, although its hours vary depending on the time of year.
