A family-friendly museum on the shores of England's largest lake, a 12-minute walk from Bowness Pier. Explore over 200 years of Windermere's boating heritage through historic vessels in interactive galleries built right over the water—motorboats, steam launches, sailing yachts and record-breaking speedboats. Watch heritage boats being restored in the working conservation workshop through large windows. The site extends across a lakeshore campus: four jetties for heritage boat trips, a boating pond for model boats, and the restored 1890 Windermere Fire Station. A lakeshore café serves seasonal food with panoramic views across the lake and fells. A year-round programme of family events and exhibitions runs throughout the year.
Museum & Cafe: 2 Nov 2025-27 Mar 2026 Tue-Sun 10am-4pm (closed Mon). 28 Mar-1 Nov 2026 Open daily 10am-5pm. Closed Christmas Day & Boxing Day. Heritage boat trips: 28 Mar-1 Nov daily (weather permitting). 2 Nov-27 Mar pre-booked exclusive only. Parking: peak summer (18 Jul-30 Aug) charged; standard 4hrs free with £5 spend resumes 31 Aug.
