Dorset Museum spans four floors of natural history, people's history, and art. The Natural Dorset Gallery covers 250 million years of geology, landscapes, habitats and wildlife. People's Dorset explores 500,000 years of history from the Palaeolithic to the present on themes of land, sea and community. Hardy's Dorset looks at Thomas Hardy and other writers. Artists' Dorset holds paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, textiles, and decorative art. Family trails and activity events run regularly; a current summer activity is a treasure chest hunt through the galleries where children spot and count nine hidden miniature chests. There is a café.
