Paignton Pier is a traditional seaside pier reaching out from the centre of the Paignton seafront in Devon, opened in 1879. Entry is free, and the pier is built for a family afternoon: a children's play park towards the far end has trampolines, a bouncy slide, water boats, bumper cars, a helter skelter and a JCB digger ride, while the amusement hall holds a large number of coin-operated and video machines. Older children and adults can walk out to the pier head for views along the bay towards Torquay and Brixham, or sit among the giant deckchairs and photo boards. Food stalls and a chip shop sit along the pier, and the sandy beach is a short walk away. The pier is busiest in summer, and much of it is under cover if the weather turns.
