Copt Hall Marshes is a National Trust site on the Blackwater Estuary in Essex, where a working farm meets salt marsh and sea wall. It suits families who enjoy a relaxed countryside walk with children, with circular routes across the fields and down towards the coast. Birdwatching is a draw, with breeding birds such as skylarks and barn owls on the farmland and wading birds along the estuary, and butterflies in the warmer months. Dogs are welcome on leads or under close control, so it also works for families with a dog. There are no toilets or cafe on site, so it suits a short outing with a packed picnic. The car park is small and spaces can run out, so it is worth arriving early or visiting at a quieter time.
