Fingringhoe Wick is a nature reserve covering more than 200 acres overlooking the Colne Estuary near Colchester. Miles of walking trails thread through woodland, scrub, heathland and past ponds, with viewpoints across the landscape. The reserve is home to up to 200 bird species, 27 dragonflies and damselflies, 24 butterflies, adders and badgers. A designated dog trail runs for approximately 1 mile. The visitor centre has a café serving hot food, sandwiches, cakes and cream teas with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, a shop stocked with binoculars, wildlife books and gifts, and a picnic area. Some walking trails are wheelchair-friendly, and all-terrain mobility scooters are available to borrow. Birthday parties, school visits and guided wildlife events run throughout the year.
