Hanningfield Reservoir Nature Discovery Park sits in mature woodland beside the large Hanningfield Reservoir in Essex, run by Essex Wildlife Trust. The discovery centre has a cafe, a nature shop with toys and games alongside binoculars and wildlife books, and staff who can help children spot and identify the birds and wildlife around them. Families can follow a themed Wind in the Willows nature trail with wooden sculptures and brass rubbings, or pick from several walking routes through the woodland and along the water. Bird hides overlook the reservoir, which is an important wintering site for wildfowl. Seasonal outdoor events, school holiday activities and themed birthday parties are run from the site. Dogs are not permitted in the park, so it suits families who want a calm, child-friendly walk and a picnic rather than a dog walk.
