Solent Sky is an aviation museum on the edge of Ocean Village in Southampton, telling the story of the aircraft makers who worked around the Solent from the early twentieth century. Its main draw is the collection of real aircraft housed in one hall, with a particular focus on the Supermarine company and the Spitfire. Families can climb aboard the Sandringham flying boat, look at the flight deck and sit in the cockpits of jet fighters, which makes it hands-on enough to hold younger visitors' attention. There is also a section on Southampton during the Second World War and a display of aero engines. Staff run quizzes and prizes for children, so it suits a rainy afternoon or a family with a mix of ages. The museum is small enough to see in a couple of hours, and it is a useful stop for anyone interested in local history or wartime aircraft.
