The Allen Gallery sits on Church Street in the centre of the market town of Alton and is run by Hampshire Cultural Trust. It is best known for its large ceramics collection, with pottery, porcelain and tiles ranging from medieval pieces to modern studio work, including Wedgwood and English delftware. The first floor has a children's activity area, and younger visitors can explore with activity bags, dressing-up clothes and drop-in sessions. The gallery runs family events and bookable workshops alongside temporary exhibitions. A café and a small shop sit on the ground floor, and the tranquil garden, tended by volunteers, is a quiet place to sit with a drink. The building is closed for a major redevelopment at present, so check before planning a visit.
