Winchester College is a working independent boys' boarding school, but its medieval campus is open to the public for guided tours, and its Treasury museum of art and archaeology is free to walk into. The tours take visitors through the original 14th-century courts, cloisters, chapel and College Hall, with a guide explaining the school's long history. The Treasury occupies the converted medieval stables and shows the school's art and archaeology collections, with temporary exhibitions across the year. For younger visitors the museum offers free family trails designed for children aged 5 to 11, which makes it a calm, indoor option for a wet afternoon in Winchester. Visitors cannot wander the school unaccompanied, so the guided tours are the way to see the buildings. Parking is limited nearby, so public transport or a city centre car park is the easier choice.
