The Gliding Heritage Centre is a collection of vintage gliders housed in hangars on the south side of Lasham Airfield, near Alton. It is run by volunteers as a registered charity, and many of the aircraft are kept airworthy so they can still fly. A guided tour of the main hangar usually takes around 40 to 45 minutes, and a second hangar can extend a visit to about two hours. Children tend to enjoy the glider simulator, which uses a real 1953 glider fuselage, and the centre says one of its aims is to introduce young people to gliding and aviation. Families can watch glider activity from the viewing area before or after a tour, and the adjoining Lasham Gliding Society clubhouse serves food and drink. Visitors should allow for gravel paths around the airfield, which can be harder going for wheelchair users.
