St Barbe is a museum and art gallery housed in a former national school building in the market town of Lymington. The museum tells the story of the Solent shore and the New Forest coast through modern, interactive displays, and includes costumes to try on and a replica pilot boat wheelhouse that suit younger visitors. The gallery hosts a changing programme of exhibitions, from local artists to loans from national collections. The venue runs free drop-in craft sessions for children, including during school holidays. There is a small cafe on site, a gift shop and a volunteer-staffed information point with local transport timetables and area guides. It works well as an indoor stop on a rainy day or alongside a walk on the nearby coast.
