Set in the only surviving brick-built barrack blocks in Aldershot, this museum tells the story of the soldiers and townspeople who lived in the garrison town from the 1850s onwards. Galleries cover Victorian military life, early aviation linked to Samuel Cody, and the social history of Aldershot, Farnborough and Cove. Outside, families can look over tanks, armoured vehicles and artillery pieces in the grounds and in Montgomery's Barn. Younger visitors tend to head straight for the World War II-inspired assault course, where they can jump, climb and swing, and there are activity sheets to follow around the displays. A small café with board games and a covered picnic area in the community garden make it easy to stay for a while. Entry is a single ticket valid for a year, and the museum runs family events and holiday activities throughout the year.
