Twyford Waterworks is a preserved Edwardian clean water pumping station set on chalk downland on the edge of the South Downs. On its open days the historic engines are run for visitors, including a steam pumping engine and boiler, large diesel pumping engines and smaller pumps, with volunteers on hand to explain how the machinery worked. Families can follow a children's trail looking for clues about the site, walk a wildlife trail with a pond and hide, and watch the industrial narrow gauge railway being demonstrated. The lime kilns and water softening works sit on a higher level of the site. A tea room and barbecue are on site, and there are picnic tables around the grounds. Children under 16 go free. Access is only on advertised open days, so check the schedule before travelling.
Open days May to October only; tea room open on open days.
