Jane Austen's House

Jane Austen's House is the cottage where the novelist lived for the last eight years of her life and wrote or revised all six of her published novels. Today it is a museum where visitors walk through the rooms as they were in the Regency period, with objects connected to Jane and her family on show, including letters, jewellery and first editions. Temporary exhibitions explore her life and books and are included with the house ticket. Outside, the garden is a quiet place to sit after looking round, and there is a gift shop in the house. Because it is a small historic house, it suits older children and adults with an interest in books more than very young children, and it is best for visitors who are comfortable with stairs and changing floor levels. Dogs are welcome in the garden on a lead.
