Fordingbridge Museum sits in a historic granary in the middle of the town, spread over two floors and packed with objects from local life. Displays cover the town and surrounding villages, including a Victorian dolls' house, old domestic kitchen equipment, a reconstructed blacksmith's workshop, early bicycles and cobblers' tools. There are also photographs of the area, material on the local railway and brick-making, and a section on the artist Augustus John. Some of the exhibits are interactive, which gives younger visitors something to look at and handle. The museum is run by a team of volunteers who are happy to talk about the displays. It is a good short visit for a rainy afternoon or a stop while exploring the northern part of the New Forest, and the River Avon and the town's shops are a short walk away.
Seasonal: open from Easter holidays to end of autumn half term only.
