Hinton Ampner

Hinton Ampner is a 20th-century Georgian-style house set in formal gardens and estate woodland within the South Downs National Park. The house was rebuilt after a fire and is furnished with a collection of ceramics and art, and families can wander the rooms at their own pace. Outside, clipped topiary, long lawns and a reflecting pool give younger visitors plenty of space to run about, while the surrounding parkland and walks offer open views across the downs. There is a café in the old stable courtyard, a shop and a second-hand bookshop, and a picnic area near the car park. The site runs family events through the year, including autumn pumpkin displays and Christmas family games, and free garden guide tours are offered weekly. Dogs are welcome on short leads in the grounds, though not inside the house.
