Free visitor car park off Morgaston Road for all visitors; limited Blue Badge spaces; all on hard standing, about a third of a mile walk from reception to the house.

The Vyne is a historic house and estate on the northern edge of Basingstoke, looked after by the National Trust. The house mixes a pre-Reformation chapel, a Tudor oak gallery and a neo-classical staircase hall, and the walled garden, orchard and lime avenue give younger visitors plenty of room to wander. Beyond the formal grounds there is ancient woodland and a bird hide overlooking the wetlands, so families can combine a look around the house with a walk outdoors. Seasonal family trails and Christmas activities run in the gardens, and there is a tea-room and gift shop on site. Paths are uneven in places and the woodland can be muddy, so sturdy footwear suits the outdoor parts of the visit. The venue is a good fit for a relaxed family outing with older children who enjoy history and exploring.
Family trail and Christmas events run seasonally (Who's in Your Book trail to 8 Nov; Twelve Days of Christmas 21 Nov-3 Jan), included in normal admission.
